Abstract

Traditional markets are an economy and survival for most people in the area, although
in the activities that occur the market contributes various types of waste in a large enough volume. Bastiong
Market is located in the District of South Ternate, which is located in Bastiong Village. Bastiong Market is
one of the biggest waste contributors because there are remnants of sales such as vegetables, fruits and
others. Waste Management as regulated in Law no. 18 of 2008 where the government encourages waste
management directly from the source. The Waste Management Law also explains the importance of 3R
(Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle) activities so that the volume of waste does not continue to increase. The
purpose of this study is to analyze waste generation, waste composition and waste management planning
using the 3R approach.
The method used in this study is a descriptive method and measures the solid waste generation unit
and the composition of the waste generated from each of the traders' stalls, namely directly from sources
in Bastiong Market. The technique of determining the sample and the measurement time as well as the procedure refers to SNI-19-3964-1994 and ASTM D5321-92 (2003).
Based on the results of calculations using the SNI-19-3964-1994 method, the amount of waste
generated at Bastiong Market is 7.93 m3/day and weighs 1.536 kg/day. The composition of the waste
obtained is 55.00% wet waste and 45.00% dry waste. TPS 3R is planned with a land area of 131.21 m2,
namely 9.12 m2 for the composting area and 58.35 m2 for the activities of sorting and handling dry waste,
as well as residual waste. The composting system applied is using the drum method with a capacity of 100
liters, as many as 38 units. Market Waste Management Planning With the 3R Approach, it is able to handle
70% of waste and 30% of residue that is disposed of in the TPA. The results of the questionnaire filled out
by the traders at the Pasar Bastiong TPS can be seen that most of the traders already have knowledge about
waste with a presentation of knowledge of market traders reaching 100%.
