Abstract

The Mergosono Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is one of the communal Communal WWTP located in Malang City. The effluent quality of the Mergosono WWTP, especially the content of organic matter such as BOD and COD, still exceeds the predetermined quality standards. The concentration of BOD effluent IPAL is 84.46 mg / L, while the COD concentration is 217.3 mg / L. The data shows that the effluent quality of Mergosono Communal IPAL still exceeds the quality standard based on the Regulation of the Minister of Environment Number 68 of 2016. It is necessary to evaluate the performance of the Mergosono Communal WWTP. It is hoped that the results of the evaluation of the performance of this Communal WWTP can provide consideration in efforts to optimize the WWTP. Design parameters such as organic loading rate, residence time, percent removal, and hydraulic load in the reacotr were evaluated for feasibility from literature studies and related design criteria. The sampling method used is the grab sampling method. The COD test method refers to SNI 6989.73:2019 carried out using the titrimetry method. The BOD test method using the reference SNI 6989.72:2009 was carried out using the iodimetry method (azide modification). The evaluation results showed very low performance. Where the head loss value on the bar screen unit does not match the design criteria. The elimination rate of COD and BOD in the anaerobic filter unit was 65% and 19.99% while in the tiered aeration unit the COD and BOD allowance rates were 41.6% and 37.50%. The low performance of WWTP is caused by several factors including short hydraulic residence time, wastewater discharge, the speed of microorganisms in decomposing organic matter, and the number of microorganisms. Efforts to improve WWTP performance by performing WWTP maintenance and increasing residence time, organic loading rate, and hydraulic loading rate.
