Abstract

One of the most important facilities for the community is the traditional market, especially to meet the needs of the community in terms of food. Hygienic Market is located in the reclamation area of ​​Tapak 1 Beach, Gamalama village. Hygienic Market has a land area of ​​10,210 m2. The purpose of this study is to calculate the generation and composition of waste generated from the Hygienic market and to determine the waste management system in the Hygienic Market.

The research method used in this study is descriptive method with the aim of obtaining data by directly measuring the generation and composition of waste from the source. The measurement and sampling technique used during the research refers to SNI-19-3964-1994 and ASTM D5321-92 (2003).

The results showed that the waste generated from the Hygienic Market based on the weight of the waste was 3.75 kg/trader.day and the volume of waste was 33.67 liters/trader/day. Meanwhile, the composition of waste based on weight is 62.18% wet waste and 37.82% dry waste and the composition of waste based on volume is 37.76% wet waste and 62.24% dry waste. The Hygienic market waste management system starts from the container, requiring 1008 containers with each trader having 2 separate trash containers for wet and dry waste. Garbage collection is carried out 2 times a day with a number of rites in the morning 5 and in the evening 6. Waste transportation uses the HCS (Hauled-Container Systems) method based on the trip calculation results obtained 8 trips per day and 2.8 L of fuel per truck For the processing system, composting of wet waste uses 450 drums and a building area of ​​31 m2. The results of the questionnaire that have been distributed to traders with data obtained that most traders already have knowledge of the waste management system in the Hygienic Market
