Abstract

The need for asphalt always increases along with the growth of development. Therefore it is necessary to reduce the use of asphalt. Therefore it is necessary to reduce the use of asphalt, namely by utilizing natural asphalt originating from Buton Island, Southeast Sulawesi (Asbuton). It is hoped that this utilization can maximize the use of Asbuton in order to increase economic value and selling power in the country. This study aims to determine the type and content of asphalt contained in asbuton. Percentage value of optimum asphalt content at ATB (Asphalt Treated Base), as well as the percentage of maximum value for the use of asbuton in the ATB (Asphalt Treated Base) layer. Based on the results of the research, it was found that the asphalt content contained in the asbuton grains extracted was 20.68%, included in type B 50/30 according to the specifications of the KPUPR Directorate General of Highways (Bina Marga) 2018 General Specifications. For marshall test results, the percentage value of the optimum asphalt content in the ATB (Asphalt Treated Base) mixture is 5.43%. And the results obtained from the Marshall test, the maximum percentage value of asbuton use in the ATB (Asphalt Treated Base) mixture is at the level of the variation of asbuton 7.94% which has reached the maximum value requirements at VIM.
