Abstract

Malang City as the second largest city in East Java Province is one of the cities of education and tourism city. Where the city is experiencing development so that the activity of its population in passing more and more every year. The faster traffic travel can cause congestion, delays, or even accidents. Traffic movement problems often occur at intersections. One of them is the W.R Supratman intersection. At peak hours, traffic jams cause long queues. In this study, an analysis and evaluation of the performance of the intersection is carried out and proposed improvements to the performance of the intersection. Data collection was carried out covering secondary data and primary data. Primary data collection was carried out by direct surveys at the study sites which were carried out on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, 24, 27 and 29 May 2021, namely traffic volume surveys, time surveys of existing traffic signal lights and geometric intersection surveys. The analysis was carried out using the 2014 Indonesian Road Capacity Guidelines (PKJI) and also using VISSIM 11 Software. Meanwhile, the evaluation of intersection performance was based on PM No. 96 of 2015. The results of the analysis show that the performance of the W. R Supratman intersection in the existing peak hour conditions, namely on Saturday 29 May 2021 at 14:45-15:45 has a degree of saturation (DS) on the North Arm = 0.99, North Arm-Bka = 0.09, East Approach is 1.06, South Approach is 0.63, South-Bka is 0.55 and West Approach = 1.51. With an average delay of 77.33 sec/veh (service level F). The performance of the intersection in this existing condition does not meet the requirements specified by the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation No. 96 of 2015 namely the service level of at least C. An alternative solution to overcome this problem is to increase the phase to 4 phases and widen the road by 1 m in each. each arm of the road, so that the performance of the W. R Supratman intersection is obtained, namely the average queue length is 32.48 m, the average degree of saturation is 0.76 0.85, and the average delay value is 20.32 sec/ vehicle. These results meet the requirements for the service level of the intersection, namely the service level C.
