Abstract

In this paper, the distance sensor and the color sensor are employed to detect and identify objects in the industrial control training module. The module simulates the industrial process for assembling the plastic part into the metal part through the conveyor systems equipped with the sensors and actuators. The sensor systems are developed to detect the object that should be passed through the assemble line, and to detect the improper assembly that should be rejected. In the paper, to reduce the number of sensors and to reduce the problem of lighting variation, we employ the ZX distance and gesture sensor and the TCS3200 color sensor. The first sensor is employed to detect the metal and plastic objects by utilizing the different in the shape or appearance. While the second sensor is employed to detect the improper assembly by utilizing the different in the color of assembled object. The experimental results show the proposed system work effectively under the different illumination changes.
