Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of variations in cooling media from Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding on the mechanical properties of welded joints in low carbon steel AISI 1045 with welding feed code ER-70S-6 electrodes. After the process of cutting the material and forming a V seam, then the butt joint is connected using a current of 270  Ampere and cooled with a variety of cooling media using SAE 10, SAE 40 and SAE 90 oils. hardness test, 3 micro test specimens and macro test. After testing, the tensile test with the highest value was obtained by the variety of SAE 90 oil media with an average value of 47.91 kgf / mm² while the SAE 40 oil cooler with an average value of 43.84 kgf / mm²  and the lowest value was obtained in the cooling medium. SAE 10 oil with an average value of 43.61 kgf / mm². whereas for hardness the highest value for all variations was at SAE 40 Oil hardness with an average value of 325.17 HV in the Haz section and the lowest hardness for all variations occurred in SAE 10 Oil cooling with an average valueof 195. 03 HV on t he base/ main metal. From the observation of the microstructure of the variation of the cooling medium,it was found that the structure of ferrite, pearlite, and martensite made the hardness value in the area of the welding result high.
