UPAYA PENINGKATAN KUALITAS LINGKUNGAN SEKOLAH DASAR MELALUI PERBAIKAN RUANG TERBUKA HIJAU DAN PEMBUATAN BIOPORI

Abstract

Several issues related to sanitation in elementary schools, especially in private schools that lacked of attention from the government, became the concern of this community service program. Poor waste management, lack of green open spaces and drainage problems at Madrasah Ibridaiyah (MI) Nurul Falah Palembang, were problems that caused teaching and learning activities can also have an impact on the health of the school environment. This activity aimed to improve the environmental quality of MI Nurul Falah through the restoration of green open spaces, establishment of biopores and waste management. The method used in this activity was socialization and counseling in order to increase community knowledge and awareness toward the importance of preserving the environment and introducing biopore techniques and treatments. The next method was restoring garden, making biopores and improving solid waste facilities, followed by the program evaluation using questionnaire. These activities has repaired the garden base and added varieties of plants to increase the quality of school environment. In addition, 16 biopore infiltration holes with a depth of 50 cm and a diameter of 10 cm were established in the school yard and around the park which are useful for inundation mitigation during heavy rainfall. In addition, improving the basic management of school waste through the addition of solid waste infrastructure and counseling all students to do waste sorting. Furthermore, in the future it is hoped that this program not only improve the convinience of teaching and learning process, but also it could improve community health and achievement.
