Abstract

Composites are a combination of two or more materials intended to produce materials that have better characteristics. Composites are mostly used because they can outperform other materials. The purpose of making composites is to get new materials whose mechanical properties can be improved better than before. Composites are generally composed of two parts, namely matrix and reinforcement. The matrix is a constituent element that functions as a connector for the reinforcement, and as an element that distributes the stress given to the composite material. This research aims to determine the mechanical properties, the value of tensile strength, stress-strain, Young's modulus, impact energy, and impact price of HGM-epoxy composites reinforcing carbon fiber and denim jeans. The process of analyzing and processing the research results using quantitative methods is carried out by compiling the data obtained in the form of tables and graphs. The test results show a significant increase in the tensile strength and impact strength of HGM-epoxy composites with carbon fiber and jeans denim in each variation. SEM test results show the presence of voids, cracks between fibers and matrix, and the density of the structure between matrices that affect the mechanical properties of the composite. The more the number of laminations, the smaller the Young's Modulus price because the strain acting on the specimen is greater. The strength of the material is influenced by how tightly the fibers are bonded to the matrix. The better the bond between the fibers and the matrix, the higher the strength of the material. The lack of density between the fibers and the matrix can cause the formation of voids between the fibers and the matrix it can reduce the quality of the bond between the fibers and the matrix.
