PEMANFAATAN KARBON AKTIF DARI BONGGOL JAGUNG (Zea mays L.) SEBAGAI ADSORBEN PADA PENGOLAHAN LIMBAH CAIR INDUSTRI BATIK
Abstract
The batik industry is one of the industries that consumes a significant amount of water
in its production. Almost 80% of the water used in the batik-making process will be liquid waste
containing dyes and organic materials, such as COD and TSS. This dye waste has a high potential
to pollute the environment. The processing of batik industrial liquid waste can be carried out using
the batch system adsorption method, utilizing corn cobs as an adsorbent. This study aimed to
analyze the effectiveness of the dose and contact time of activated carbon from corn cobs on the
reduction of CODand Color concentrations. The dosage of adsorbents used was 1.5 grams and 3
grams, with stirring times of 30, 60, and 90 minutes at a stirring speed of 200 rpm. The results of
the study showed that the activated carbon of corn cobs was able to absorb COD and Color. The
highest effectiveness of the percentage of COD and Color content allowance at the activated carbon
dose variation of 3 grams and at the contact time of 90 minutes with the percentage of COD
elimination of 83% and Color of 18%, but has not met the quality standards by Government
Regulation No. 22 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Environmental Protection and
Management of Annex VI class 3, namely COD 40 mg/L and Color 100 Pt-Co.
