DECREASING POLLUTANTS LEVELS IN LIQUID WASTE RESULTING FROM SOYBEAN TEMPE INDUSTRY USING FILTRATION AND PHITOREMEDIATION METHODS
Abstract
Industrial development is currently growing rapidly, especially household-scale
industries. Tempe industry is one of the productions that implements a simple system. One of them
is the Tempe Industry in Karang Baru Park, Selaparang District, Mataram City. Tempe-making
waste can reduce the concentration of dissolved oxygen, causing a foul odor. Wastewater
treatment using a combination of filtration and phytoremediation methods is an effective and easy
method for tempe industrial producers. This study aims to analyze the ability of the filtrationphytoremediation method in the treatment of wastewater from washing soybeans in the tempe
industry to reduce BOD, COD and TSS.
This study used a variable contact time variation for 7, 14 and 21 days as well as variations
in the number of plants as many as 8, 16 and 24 pieces. Sampling was carried out 3 times over a
period of 21 days (7 days). The phytoremediator used is water hyacinth (Eichornia Crassipes)
because it has a higher pollutant absorption capacity than other aquatic plants.
The results showed that the combination of filtration-phytoremediation was able to reduce the
concentration of BOD levels by 99.88%, COD by 98.13% and TSS by 97.96% within 21 days and
the number of plants was 24 pieces.
